Retro Summer Cocktails

Summer is right around the corner and here in Vegas the heat is already rearing its ugly head. Lucky for me, I always like to beat the heat by grabbing my best pals and donning my favorite 50’s fashion and throwing a retro inspired cocktail bash. So grab your most dashing gentlemen and ladies don those vintage dresses and lets party like Mad Men in the summer!

Tom Collins

A Tom Collins is a classic staple and this lemonade-like gin drink is destined to keep you and your guests hopping and swinging.

  • 1 tablespoon simple syrup
  • Juice of 1 medium lemon
  • 4 ounces of gin
  • Splash of soda water

Shake sugar, lemon juice, and gin in a shaker with ice. Strain over ice and top with soda water.

White Russian

A White Russian looks gorgeous and tastes even better, but I’d limit these on warm days because of the milk content.

  • ¾ ounces coffee liqueur
  • 1 ounce vodka
  • 2 ounces heavy cream

Add liqueur, vodka, and ice in a glass and stir. Top with cream.

Planters Punch

This colorful 20th century cocktail screams summer soiree! Make it pretty with fun garnishes that tell your guests its time to party throwback style.

  • 3 ounces dark rum
  • 3 ounces spiced rum
  • 1 ½ ounces Grand Marnier
  • 6 ounces orange juice
  • 6 ounces pineapple juice
  • 1 ½ ounces lime juice
  • 1 ½ ounces simple syrup
  • 4 dashes bitters
  • 2 ounces grenadine
  • 1 pineapple wedge
  • 1 maraschino cherry

Add dark rum, spiced rum, Grand Marnier, orange juice, pineapple juice, lime juice, simple syrup, bitters, and grenadine in a pitcher and mix. Pour into a shaker and add ice. Shake and strain over ice and garnish with pineapple and cherry.

Gin Rickey

Lime, gin, and bubbles…what more could you want? The Gin Rickey is  the lime’s dry answer to the Tom Collins.

  • 1 ¼ ounce dry gin
  • ¼ ounce lime juice
  • 1 ounce soda water

Stir together gin and lime juice and serve over ice. Top with soda water.

This citrusy whisky drink looks lovely when garnished with lime.

1 once Canadian whisky

¼ ounces triple sec

2 ounces sweet and sour mix

1 lime wheel

Shake together whisky, triple sec, and sweet and sour mix with ice. Strain over ice in a sugar-rimmed cocktail glass and garnish with lime.
