TEARS OF A HERO – YUVRAJ SINGH
Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh who’s prevailed over the emperor of maladies, the cancer, broke down while sharing his struggle with the disease on the occasion of World Cancer Day.
A number of cancer patients and survivors gathered to share their experiences at the event hosted on Monday in collaboration with Crown Plaza. As Yuvraj Singh recalled his successful battle with cancer, tears rolled down his cheeks.
“I always cry now, I have become a cry baby. I was feeling that my life might come to an end,” he said.
Just a few months after India’s World Cup triumph in 2011, Yuvi was diagnosed with a rare germ cell cancer between his lungs. He went to the US for treatment. Today, the 31-year-old has become inspiration for many such patients battling with cancer.
He is generating awareness and facilitating early detection of cancer through his initiative ‘YouWeCan’.
“I want to give back to the society. Many cancer patients die because their disease is not detected early. Also, there is a stigma attached to it. The need is to address those issues,” Yuvraj Singh said.
